Some stats from the Lisp the Draper people are hacking on the IBM 3090 Address space: 32 bits (all other lisps people seems to have for IBM are 24 bit byte addressed) 1000! in 0.055 seconds. 1000! including printing in 0.096 seconds. A GC in the middle of this computation, with 1 MEGAWORD LIST SPACE and 1 MEGABYTE STRING SPACE took .321 seconds. 18.5 nanosecond machine cycle. Many simple instructions execute in one cycle. LENGTH/CDR down a list takes 40 nanoseconds per CDR when a short list in cache. Goes up to 150 nanoseconds with big lists.
