MEMORANDUM TO: John Conway FROM: Keith Corbett DATE: June 27, 1986 SUBJ: Bug Information Management COPY: John Salis John, I want to express once again my appreciation of the work you've put into re-thinking the bug reporting process. As I understand it, your proposal agrees substantially with the process that we have hoped to implement in cooperation with Engineering. I will be away all next week on vacation, but when I get back I hope we can schedule a meeting up here so that we can discuss some of the finer points of implementation with other members of Technical Support. I think we all agree that the Cambridge-Andover mail connection is potentially the weakest link in the process. We will be very happy to take up Wendy's and Dan's offers of additional Engineering technical support on ZMail and uucp. Will you be coordinating that effort? Indicentally, attached is some data we compiled in March regarding the backlog of Engineering Referrals. This information may give you a better picture of the size of the problem we are attempting to solve. In particular, the graphs reveal (graphically!) the exponential rise in bug reports that we experienced after Release 2.0 got to the customers. This is, of course, what we may be looking at with regard to 3.0; and that is what we must be prepared for. Thanks again, and I look forward to working with you closely. ATTACHMENT
