what were previously two components, FILE SAVE, component 67, and FILE SAVE - ONLINE, component 716. (067/2) is the first portion of the MTS filesave, i.e., disk backup, program. This program is run once per week at UM to produce a backup of all disk files in case of hardware or software problems. On other days, a partial filesave is produced using the online file save program (067/40) of those files which have changed since the previous file save was run. The tapes generated by the full save are copied, see (610), and saved for several months. Six week intervals of these full tapes are saved for several years. We have found that this procedure, which includes storing the full tapes in another building, seems to provide a reasonable backup. ************************************************************************* Use the makefile (67/1) to build the object. 0 Referenced by comments of: 67/2, 67/3, 671/2 00067/003U FILE SAVE CAT UPD UC G RSTR:FS_CAT*UQ 6.0T1 235 FILE_SAVE.CAT_UPD.UC.003 1 LINE 94 4 PAGE UM BURLING FILE APR. 20, 1988 20:08:25 0 Updates to be applied to (067/2) to yield current source. 00067/004U FILE SAVE CAT OBJ OC G RSTR:FS_CAT*OQ 6.0T1 236 FILE_SAVE.CAT_OBJ.OC.004 1 LINE 3686 6 PAGE UM BURLING FILE APR. 20, 1988 20:08:25 RSTR:FS_CAT*OQ 0 Referenced by comments of: 67/5 00067/005U FILE SAVE CAT OBJ OC G RSTR:FS_CAT 6.0T1 237 FILE_SAVE.CAT_OBJ.OC.005 1 LINE 55 1 PAGE UM BURLING FILE APR. 20, 1988 20:08:25 RSTR:FS_CAT 0 Contains only a "$CONTINUE WITH RSTR:FS_CAT*OQ (067/4) + FILE:FINT*OL (482/100) + COPY:SYSDEFS (579/5)" record. 0 Referenced by comments of: 67/34 00067/006C FILE SAVE MAIN BASE SQ G RSTR:FS_MAIN#SQ 6.0T1 238 FILE_SAVE.MAIN_BASE.SQ.006 1 LINE 72 19 PAGE UM BURLING FILE APR. 20, 1988 20:08:25 0 Main portion of the full file save. Will read records on SCARDS from a file or blocked tape, such as produced by *CMB. Prints output on SPRINT. Alternate subroutine entry LIST#, used by SCAN (753), lets caller specify I/O FDUBS instead of SCARDS/SPRINT. Program must be run with PROT=OFF. If a rate number appears in the *STATISTICS record and the job was run after the beginning of 1974, the MTS GETRATES subroutine (922/1) is called to obtain a set of rates used to print the cost of the job. Otherwise, rates are obtained from assembled-in tables. For this reason, the program will have to be reassembled at each installation since the rate tables will be wrong. It allows the operators to manipulate information in the system's DSKTAB entries, which affect the availability and certain attributes of the MTS public volumes. Volumes can be added to, removed from, or temporarily "forgotten" by the system. Additionally, they can also be designated to have the following characteristics: no catalog permitted; no files created on them unless explicitly requested; or no files created on them unless space is unavailable elsewhere. The program will also display information in the DSKTAB entries which are of operator interest, e.g., the number of free pages on each disk. See (682/5) for a writeup. The following functions are performed: - INIT:REASON (097/38) is created, permitted and emptied. - The current time and date are checked against the time and date of the last signoff in *STATISTICS (050/9) to verify, at least partially, that they are correct. - *DCK is started up to read the time from the WWV clock and compare it to the machine clock, to ensure that the time is reasonably close to correct. - The program INITLOG (097/32) is run to obtain the reason for reloading from the operator and write it at the end of the file INIT:LOG (097/37) and into INIT:REASON. - The PDP is started. - *CHK is started to check for devices that were offline at IPL time. - INIT:REASON is copied to the end of INIT:RELOADLOG (097/39). - RAMROD is run to write the comments for the current system to INIT:REASON(2000), which is then copied to OPER. - *S2L, the post-IPL loader (559/1), is started. - MTS *CLN (531/5) is started to begin the Command Statistics data collection. - MTS *FSM (067/55) is started to clean up the online file save directories. - MTS *STI (050/2) is started to check for a system crash during the last statistics save. - The system status master job, JOBS MAS, is started. - ETC:SAVE.COUNTS is emptied. - The CLEAN program (097/27) is run to destroy any scratch files 1 MON AUG 05/96 18:52:43 Page 64 0 Num R Component Name Subname Type G Seq ID S Location File +_________ _________________________ ______________ ____ _ ______ _ ___________________________________________________________ ____ 6250 tape-file FS Name Ver FType LRECL Size DevT Inst Person Local Per Date Time + ______________ ________________________________ ___ _____ _____ ____ ____ ____ _________ _________ ______________ ________ 1600 tape-file Disk Name + ______________ _____________________ 0 which were left around when the system last went down. - The ACCINITIL program (097/7) is run. It starts up 5 (the number of auxiliary accounting files) other jobs (MTS *ACCINIT(10), MTS *INIT(20), etc.) to make 5 lists (in the files ACCINIT1, ACCINIT2, etc.) of the user IDs which were signed-on when the system last went down. When the 5 files are complete, it prints "THE ACCOUNTING FILE IS AVAILABLE" on the operators console and begins "fixing" the IDs. When finished, the total number of IDs fixed is printed on the console. No batch jobs should be allowed to run (i.e. don't release execution) until this information has printed, since it is possible that some of the batch jobs to be run will have user IDs which are still being fixed. It is ok to bring up terminal lines after the "ACCOUNTING FILE IS AVAILABLE" message prints and after the "*NAL complete" message prints, but some terminal users may not be able to signon until their user IDs have been fixed. These users will get a message which indicates that their IDs are temporarily unavailable. 0 Referenced by comments of: 50/2, 97/3, 97/25, 97/35, 531/5, 531/6, 559/1, 883/4 00097/006 INIT TST.INITCMD C # TSTP:INITCMD UM BURLING INIT:INITCMD 0 Test pack/starter system version of INIT:INITCMD.
