290-629 IBM 4700 HOST SUPPORT PROGRAM RELEASE 9 WITH ENHANCEMENTS TO THE HOST SUPPORT EXTENSIONS FEATURE The IBM 4700 Host Support Program (5668-989) licensed program, and the IBM 4700 Host Support Extensions feature have been enhanced to provide improved support of the IBM 4702 Processors and IBM 4701 Model X03 Controllers in the areas of performance, error recovery, and function enabling management. IBM 4700 Host Support Program (HSP) provides system and network management for the IBM 4700 processors. The IBM 4700 Host Support Extensions feature has been enhanced to support these new functions. All models of the 4700 are supported by Release 9. Those enhancements utilizing new functions on the 4700 are supported only when used in conjunction with the corresponding 4702 and 4701 Model X03 Controller Data Support Engineering Change (EC) 325258. HIGHLIGHTS o User Productivity - Checkpoint Restart and Recovery Facility reduces necessity of resubmitting every failed transmission, by restarting at the point of failure. - Downline Load Compression Facility improves the performance of the transmission, thereby increasing the potential for operator productivity. - Virtual Volume Downline Load Enhancements allow the operator to prioritize the business tasks when updating intelligent workstation applications. o Growth Enablement - Enhancements to Enabling Function Management increase the uses of the controller by allowing the addition of new functions that can be added from a centrally-located host site. o Business Solutions - Virtual Volume Downline Load Enhancements allow operator to prioritize the business tasks when integrating intelligent workstation applications. o Investment Protection - Enhancements to HTF Error Message Handling provide the operator with more information to help determine why the job may have failed.
